Bahrain’s Economic Development Board (EDB) is sending a high-level business delegation to China this week. The primary objective of the delegation will be to pave the way for further cooperation between the two countries on business and economic fronts.

The delegation will be led by His Excellency Shaikh Hisham bin Abdulrahman Al Khalifa, Governor of Capital Governorate and its members include HE Khalid Al Rumaihi, Chief Executive of EDB; HE Mr. Sameer Abdulla Nass, Chairman of BCCI; HE Dr. Anwar Alabdulla, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Bahrain to China, and representatives from the Kingdom’s public and private sectors.

The trip will span nine days and includes a tour to China’s leading commercial centers at cities such as Beijing, Hangzhou, and Shijiazhuang others. Throughout the visit, the delegation will meet a number of government officials and politicians including the Governor of Zhejiang and Hebei Provinces, Mayor of Shenzhen, and several prominent business leaders from across the country.

Speaking of the significance of the delegation’s China visit, HE Shaikh Hisham bin Abdulrahman Al Khalifa, Capital Governor said: “Such high-level visits across China emphasize the continuous interest of the Kingdom of Bahrain for deeper economic ties with China and the spirit of collaboration that is growing between our two nations over the years. These visits highlight our mutual desire to expand cooperation at all levels, from financial services to ICT, tourism, manufacturing, transportation and logistics services.

The relationship between Bahrain and China has been consistently on an upswing ever since His Majesty King Hamad’s 2013 China trip. The trade relationship and cooperation between the two nations have further strengthened over the past couple of years because of Bahrain’s fast-evolving startup ecosystem and the country’s willingness to play a vital role in China’s flagship One Belt, One Road (OBOR) initiative.
