Bank of Bahrain and Kuwait (BBK), under the patronage of the Central Bank of Bahrain (CBB), hosted the Digital Economy Forum & Expo 2020 on Jan 14-15. 

Held in collaboration with the Bahrain Institute of Banking & Finance (BIBF) as the official Knowledge Partner, the forum focused on the various avenues that the economy can leverage to reap the harvest of the ongoing digital revolution. 

The theme of the forum was “Transforming Business & Society Through Digitization.” More than 500 participants — all senior representatives from various sectors — took part in the forum and shared their take on how Bahrain should take its digital economy forward. 

The opening keynote was delivered by Jeremy White, Executive Editor at WIRED (UK) and he shed light on various next-generation technologies that could make substantial contributions to the Bahraini, as well as the global economy.

H.E. Mohammed Ali AlQaed, Chief Executive of the Information & eGovernment Authority, also chipped in by underlining the various accomplishments under the Kingdom’s Cloud-First initiative.

Speaking on the occasion, the Governor of the Central Bank of Bahrain H.E. Rasheed Mohamed Al Maraj, stated: “The Kingdom of Bahrain has recently rolled out regulations that support the Kingdom’s digital transformation including a Personal Data Protection Law. Our role as regulators is to inspire, lead and overcome challenges to innovation, and to foster the growth of the digital economy and FinTech ecosystem in Bahrain.”

The main event was accompanied by a mega international expo participated by a large number of global technology companies to exhibit and demonstrate their flagship digital applications and solutions.
