Bahrain Mumtalakat Holding Company (Mumtalakat), the sovereign wealth fund of the Kingdom, conducted a workshop late last month to spread the awareness about cybersecurity and cloud computing among the local companies within the Group.

The Lunch & Learn workshop was titled “Cybersecurity & Cloud Computing”, and it included a series of educational seminars that facilitated an exchange of ideas and insights into the ever-increasing role of digital technology in the contemporary business ecosystem. Mumtalakat also stated that these seminars would be repeated throughout the year to help its business partners and local companies to better cope with the changing landscape in the 21st-century business environment.

Held at the Capital Club Bahrain, the workshop saw participants sharing their knowledge and expertise among the Group. The first workshop was primarily targeted at IT professionals in its portfolio companies, and it included speakers from Tamkeen (labor fund), the Information & eGovernment Authority, and Amazon Web Services (AWS).

In his welcome speech addressed to Group employees, Mahmood H. Alkooheji, CEO of Mumtalakat, commented, Chief Executive of Mumtalakat, said: “It is very important for us to enhance cyber-security and cloud computing solutions across the Group; forums like these enable knowledge exchange and awareness of best practices adopted.

He added: “We are proud that AWS has selected Bahrain as the location for its first-ever data center in the Middle East. The Government of Bahrain, along with Mumtalakat, Central Bank of Bahrain (CBB) and the Economic Development Board (EDB) are already using cloud technologies through AWS-in fact, we started our journey in November last year- and I encourage our portfolio companies to partner with them as well.”

Apart from the workshop, Mumtalakat also joined forces with Tamkeen to allow the companies within the Group access to tailored AWS training program in the near future.
