Unipal, Bahrain’s leading student offers and benefits platform, raises a 6-figure Seed Round led by OQAL among other angel investors.

Since its inception, Unipal focused on creating better university experiences for students by helping them with the non-academic aspects of their lives; be it through saving more money, connecting them to events and activities that they learn from and enjoy, and much more.

With this new round of investment, Unipal aims to introduce their brand new application in March of 2021; welcoming some drastic improvements — both user interface-wise, as well as the server to ensure the provision of smoother experiences for students.

Ali also shared that they’ve been working on advancing some of their existing features, also to be anticipated in March of this year.

One thing students should look forward to is having built-in filter options in the Maps feature, where they get to browse by category and search for specific vendors within the map itself. This comes in handy, especially that the current version of the application only shows vendors as pins; without any additions.

Another popular feature that’s currently in the phase of being improved, is the Savings Tracker. In the new version, students will get to see their rankings in each vendor they make a transaction in and compete for digital awards and vouchers.

Speaking of vouchers and giveaways, they’re one of the main attractions for students in Unipal as they’re currently being given physically. In the new version, Unipal is introducing a system where vouchers are given digitally; everything will be redeemable through the application.

Commenting on the investment round, Ali Al-Alawi, Managing Director of Unipal, has shared: “The investment round will boost our push for the new release. Our investors are also strategically selected to further grow Unipal. We have set high targets for 2021 and we’re excited to hit the ground running!”

Commenting on the successful closure, Khaled Zainalabedin, President & Founder of Oqal Angels Network – Bahrain Chapter, has shared: “We are truly proud of Unipal and foresee a great future ahead for the Founders and the team within the region and beyond. Our main mandate since setting up Oqal in the Kingdom of Bahrain is to support Bahraini startups source and have access to means of financing, mentorship and market entry to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the region. Our aim is to be a key player supporting both the Bahraini and Saudi startup ecosystems and will always continue to do so. We wish the team at Unipal all the best and success.
